Taiwanese athlete who failed gender identity test reaches 2024 Olympic boxing final
Taiwan’s Lin Yuting has reached the boxing finals at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
In the semi-finals of the 57 kg weight category, Yuting defeated Esra Yildiz of Turkey with a score of 5:0.
Yuting’s opponent in the Olympic tournament final will be announced later.
In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) suspended Yuting and Algerian Iman Khelif from the World Championships in India for failing to meet the eligibility criteria. A gender test showed that the athletes had XY chromosomes. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed them to compete in women’s competitions in 2024.
The Olympic Games will end on August 11.
