The most decorated freestyle wrestler in history, Alexander Medved, has passed away
Three-time Olympic champion and seven-time world champion Alexander Medved has passed away at the age of 87, the press service of the Russian Wrestling Federation reports.
— An outstanding athlete, the legendary Soviet and Belarusian wrestler Alexander Medved has passed away. This news caught us in Vladivostok, where the Eastern Economic Forum will begin its work, and earlier we opened the Wrestling Palace in Ufa, where a museum will begin its work, the first exhibit of which was a gift personally given by Alexander Vasilyevich — a statuette of freestyle wrestlers.
The head of Bashkiria, Radiy Faritovich Khabirov, accepted this gift with great gratitude from the legendary athlete, the most titled freestyle wrestler in history. Blessed memory to Alexander Vasilyevich, – said the head of the Russian Wrestling Federation (RSF) Mikhail Mamiashvili.
The flag bearer of the USSR team at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Alexander Medved, was recognized as the best freestyle wrestler in the history of the sport.
