President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko expressed condolences to the family and friends of the Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, multiple world and Olympic champion Alexander Medved.
On Monday, the head of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR), Mikhail Mamiashvili, announced that Alexander Medved died at the age of 87.
Lukashenko emphasized that Alexander Medved devoted himself entirely to serving Belarus and made an invaluable contribution to the development of the national school of wrestling and the Olympic movement.

He climbed to the highest step of the Olympic podium three times, demonstrating virtuoso technique and heroic power on the mat, and was recognized as the best freestyle wrestler in the history of sports, says the text of the condolence, which was published by the press service of the head of the Belarusian state.
The standard bearer of the USSR national team at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Alexander Medved, was recognized as the best freestyle wrestler in the history of the sport.
