The absolute world heavyweight champion, Ukrainian boxer Alexander Usik, published a video on social networks in which he said that he was released after being detained at the airport in Krakow (Poland).
On Wednesday it became known that Usik was detained at Krakow airport, where he arrived by car from Kyiv to fly to Spain for training camp. However, airport security staff did not want to allow the fellow boxer on board for reasons unknown to his camp. The boxer allegedly stated that he himself would not fly and was against the detention of his friend. As a result, both were detained. According to media reports, the reason for the boxer’s detention was serious speeding.
– Everything is fine, friends. I’m free, there was a misunderstanding. Thanks to the Ukrainian delegation for their support and quick resolution of the issue. “I’m free, there’s no need to crown me,” Usyk said in the video.
Usik is 37 years old; in the professional ring he won 22 victories in 22 fights.
