Alexander wanted to run for president and become minister of sports, but completely ruined his reputation.
The absolute world heavyweight champion, Ukrainian boxer Alexander Usik, got into a shocking story. He was detained at Krakow airport in Poland, and the footage from the cameras showed footage of the athlete in handcuffs. The scandal reached the international level.
Usik, who planned to become a big official and would soon have a rematch with Tyson Fury, has trampled himself into such mud that he may not be able to get out of it.
Did you behave badly or act recklessly?
At first, information appeared in the media that Usik was detained for speeding. However, this version immediately raised a number of questions. Everyone knows that a person is not handcuffed for such a violation of traffic rules. Unless it was a chase with all that it entails. Further, wrestler and Verkhovna Rada deputy Zhan Belenyuk confirmed the information about the detention of the boxing star, but chose not to disclose the details of what happened.
The entire Ukrainian leadership got involved in the matter, including the Consul General in Krakow, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and even the president of the country. Moreover, very unpleasant words were thrown at Poland, capable of provoking a political aggravation.
Meanwhile, the largest American publication ESPN gave a more plausible version of the incident.
According to reputable media reports, Usik and his coach Sergei Lapin were in a condition that did not allow them to fly on an airplane. The boxer tried to explain that they were simply tired after a long journey from Kyiv, that’s why they looked like that. Obviously, at the border in Poland they did not believe them: otherwise they would not have put handcuffs on. As a result, Usik’s inappropriate behavior led to a call to the airport security staff. The Polish border service explained what was happening as follows:
“This is not a detention, but a delivery of a person to a place for an official conversation.” The two men were removed from the flight and lost their passenger status. They refused to leave the gate when asked by security. As a result, they were brought to us, as a result of which we explained to them why they could not fly away. Following this, the Ukrainian consul arrived.
Two people received a warning and left us around 10 pm. The handcuffs were only a preventive measure, Dziennik Polski quotes the press secretary of the Carpathian border detachment, Jacek Mikhailovsky.
“No need to be crowned”
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry immediately promised to express an official protest to Warsaw over the detention of Usyk. Their indignation knew no bounds, although in the end everything ended well. At least that’s what the athlete himself and his wife say.
– Everything is fine! Everything is fine! Alexander will explain everything later! Nothing criminal. Good night everyone! — Ekaterina Usik wrote on social networks.
– Everything is fine, friends. I’m free, there was a misunderstanding. Thanks to the Ukrainian delegation for their support and quick resolution of the issue. “I’m free, there’s no need to crown me,” Usyk said in the video.
It is curious that shortly before his arrest, the boxer began preparing for a rematch against Tyson Fury, which is scheduled to take place on December 21. The day before, he posted information that he was looking for a sparring partner for a camp in Spain, so the plans were large-scale and serious. At least on paper.
In fact, the Ukrainian found himself in an extremely unpleasant story, which could ruin his reputation and hinder his political ambitions. Although the latter can certainly be resolved.

Previously, Alexander Usik (24-0, 15 KOs), the holder of the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles (over 90.7 kg), talked about his plans and admitted when he plans to end his professional career. The boxer recently vacated his WBO title and lost his status as absolute world champion.
