UFC lightweight champion Russian Islam Makhachev commented on the words of Georgian fighter Merab Dvalishvili about Dagestan and Russia.
At UFC 306, Dvalishvili won the bantamweight championship with a unanimous decision over Sean O’Malley. Answering a question about possible rivals, the Georgian said that he has less hostility towards Umar Nurmagomedov than towards Peter Yan, since, according to Dvalishvili, Nurmagomedov represents Dagestan, which is not Russia. “Umar is not from Russia, he is from Dagestan. This is not the same thing,” the Georgian said at a press conference.
– How is it? We can say that he lives in America and doesn’t understand this. He is provoking it, trying to somehow bring it out. I think Umar will answer all these questions in the cage,” Makhachev told the Championship.
Umar Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev are natives of Dagestan.
