MMA fighter fell into a coma after unsuccessful weight loss
MMA fighter Diane Silva fell into a coma after an unsuccessful weight cut before a PFL tournament, Women’s MMA Rankings reports.
The 29-year-old Brazilian was scheduled to compete at a tournament in London on September 14. Throughout her career, she competed as a lightweight, but decided to try herself in the featherweight category, which negatively affected her health.
This week, the athlete showed an “increasing level of consciousness”, which “gives hope” for her recovery.
PFL management paid the entire fight fee and flew a member of her family from Brazil to be with her in London.
Silva has won three straight victories in mixed martial arts.
