The International Doping Testing Agency has provisionally suspended Povetkin on suspicion of violating anti-doping rules.
Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin has been temporarily suspended by the International Doping Testing Agency (ITA) due to suspicion of violating anti-doping rules, according to the ITA website.
The decision to suspend was made based on a check of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory (LIMS) database. The date of the violation was October 25, 2014, the reason for the suspension was “the athlete’s use or attempted use of a prohibited substance or prohibited method.” On October 24, 2014, Povetkin defeated Cameroonian Carlos Takam to win the WBC Silver title.
The period of temporary suspension starts from October 21, 2024.
Povetkin is an Olympic champion (2004), former world heavyweight champion.
The 45-year-old Povetkin has 36 victories in his professional career. He was defeated in three fights, and another match ended in a draw. In March 2021, the Russian lost to Briton Dillian Whyte by technical knockout in the fourth round and soon announced his retirement.
