Former world boxing champion Israel Vazquez dies at the age of 46
Former world boxing champion Israel Vazquez has died at the age of 46, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced on his social network page.
The Mexican previously held the IBF and WBC super bantamweight world titles.
“Thank you, Israel, for the many wonderful memories that you gave us with your actions in the ring, but most importantly, outside of it. Now you are eternal. Rest in peace,” Suleiman wrote.
In November, it became known that Vasquez was diagnosed with stage four sarcoma.
The boxer retired in 2010 with a record of 44 wins (32 knockouts) and five losses in 49 professional fights.
After retiring, Vazquez began having problems with his right eye, which was later removed. In 2020, he was diagnosed with another incurable disease – systemic sclerosis.
