Makhachev said that he sees no point in fighting against Topuria

UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev said which opponent he would like to fight in one of his next fights in the promotion.

Makhachev was asked what is more likely in 2025 – his fight with Ilia Topuria, who previously expressed a desire to move up to lightweight, or a fight with the winner of the welterweight title fight between Belal Muhammad and Shavkat Rakhmonov.

– I think it’s the second one, because the fight with Topuria makes no sense. Why do I need this? Belt? Money? I have money, I don’t need it. “I need a second belt,” Makhachev said in an interview with Shakiel Majuri.

Makhachev is the leader of the UFC rankings, regardless of weight category. On January 18 in Los Angeles he will defend the lightweight championship belt in a fight against Arman Tsarukyan. During his MMA career, the Russian won 26 victories and suffered one defeat.

In the UFC rankings, regardless of weight categories, Topuria ranks fourth. Previously, he expressed his readiness to fight Makhachev.
