Olympic champion Lopez knocked out Russian Zonya in the title fight at the IBA Night of Champions tournament

WBA Asia super middleweight belt holder Nikita Zon lost by knockout to two-time Olympic champion Cuban Arlen Lopez at the IBA Night of Champions tournament, which took place on Friday in Dubai.

The fight for the IBA title in the weight category up to 80 kg ended early 20 seconds before the end of the last, 10th round. The referee stopped the fight when the Russian found himself on the ring floor for the fourth time during the round.

Zon agreed to take part in this fight on short notice – five days before the fight, it became known that the 2023 world champion, holder of the WBA Gold light heavyweight and IBA belts in the weight up to 86 kg, Russian Sharabutdin Ataev, would not be able to compete due to health reasons. Last weekend in Yekaterinburg, Zon himself defeated Odiljon Aslonov from Uzbekistan ahead of schedule and won the WBA Asia super middleweight belt. Lopez is a two-time Olympic champion, bronze medalist at the 2024 Games, 2015 world champion and holder of the IBA 80 kg belt.
