Zon said he has no health problems after being knocked out by Lopez
Russian Nikita Zon said that he does not experience any health problems after a knockout in a fight with two-time Olympic champion Cuban Arlen Lopez.
On Friday, in the main bout of the IBA Night of Champions tournament in Dubai, Zon lost to IBA 80 kg champion Lopez by knockout in the tenth round. Before the knockout, the Russian was counted out three knockdowns.
Zon agreed to take part in this fight on short notice – five days before the fight, it became known that the 2023 world champion, holder of the WBA Gold light heavyweight and IBA belts in the weight up to 86 kg, Russian Sharabutdin Ataev, would not be able to compete due to health reasons. Last weekend in Yekaterinburg, Zon himself defeated Odiljon Aslonov from Uzbekistan ahead of schedule and won the WBA Asia super middleweight belt. Lopez is a two-time Olympic champion, bronze medalist at the 2024 Games, 2015 world champion and holder of the IBA 80 kg belt.
— I was very upset, there is nothing special to say. The fight was going well, but something apparently went wrong – I missed something. It’s hard for me to give an assessment so quickly. My health is fine, I feel good now. This happens. Maybe it was a mistake to come on as a substitute six days after the last fight. This is most likely true. I’ll come back stronger. I hope we will meet him again, and I will win against him,” the Match TV correspondent reports Zonya’s words.
The IBA Night of Champions tournaments are broadcast live on Match TV and Match! Fighter”.
