Sharafutdinov became the first Russian karate to win gold at the European Championship in Armenia

Karatist Ernest Sharafutdinov won gold in the weight category up to 75 kg at the European Karate Championship in Yerevan.

At competitions in Armenia, Sharafutdinov in the final defeated the Montenegrin Nemany Mikulich, who took second place. Bronze was won by a native of Kosovo Bimbim Maliki and Konstantinos Ziguris from Greece.

This medal was the first for Russian athletes speaking at competitions in Yerevan in neutral status. Later on Saturday, Yurik Ogannisyan and Ahmed Akhmedov will compete for gold in weight categories up to 67 kg and up to 60 kg, respectively.

The European Karate Championship is held in Yerevan from May 7 to 11.
