Martial arts legend knocked out in fight after boxing match
UFC hall of famer Wanderlei Silva was knocked out in a fight after being disqualified from a boxing match, CBS reports.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the Spaten Fight Night 2 tournament in Sao Paulo (Brazil). Silva took on former WBO and WBA super featherweight titleholder fellow countryman Acelino Freitas.
In the fourth round, the referee stopped the fight after Silva violated the rules; the fighter was disqualified after an intentional headbutt. A brawl broke out in the ring involving members of both teams. As a result, Wanderlei took a blow to the jaw, presumably from a member of Freitas’ team, and lost consciousness.
Wanderlei Silva is 49 years old and last fought in MMA in 2018. The Brazilian has 35 victories, 14 defeats, one draw and one fight declared invalid.
