Former UFC fighter Godofredo Castro found dead in US prison
Former UFC fighter, Brazilian Godofredo Castro, was found dead in prison in the United States, reports R7 Esportes.
The body of Godofredo Castro de Oliveira, known as Pepey, was discovered Sunday in Florida. The Brazilian fighter, who was 38 years old, had been in custody since July 2025 on charges of domestic violence against his wife Samara Mello.
Mello’s lawyer Gaudencio Santiago confirmed Castro’s death.
“The death of a person in custody is a serious matter. American authorities are required to follow certain procedures; any news will be announced by them. Until then, I ask that you respect the family and avoid speculation to prevent further suffering,” he said.
The cause of Castro’s death has not yet been disclosed by US authorities.
Florida authorities previously charged Castro with a series of crimes, including kidnapping with bodily injury, domestic violence by strangulation and obstructing police communications. Bail was set at $120,000.
In mixed martial arts, Castro won 14 victories and suffered seven defeats, one of his fights was declared invalid. He had 11 fights in the UFC from 2012 to 2018, and competed in the RCC league.
