Russian judoka Madina Taymazova admitted on Match TV that she was worried about the condition of her opponent Tsunoda Roustanat during the match at the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo.
Taymazova, competing in the up to 70 kg weight category, defeated Spain’s Roustanat in the semi-finals of the tournament. The Spaniard lost consciousness after the Russian’s winning move.
– They shouted: “Doctor, doctor!” It was at that moment that I realized that something was wrong. I look, and she makes wheezing and some strange sounds. Then I realized that she had “fallen asleep.” To be honest, I gave vent to my emotions, I felt sorry for her. We are friends, she always supported me very much when we had difficult circumstances. She always communicated with me, congratulated me, and helped me. After the fight, I asked her to forgive me for what happened. She said that everything is fine, it’s a sport. We understood each other,” Taymazova said on the air of the “Everyone for the Match!” program. on the Match TV channel.
In the final, Taymazova lost to the current world champion, Japanese Shiho Tanaka.
At the Grand Slam tournament, Russian athletes took second place in the medal standings, winning five awards: one gold, one silver and three bronze.
On November 27, the executive committee of the International Judo Federation (IJF) returned to Russian judokas the right to compete at international tournaments under the national flag, anthem and symbols.
