Russian boxer Popov won gold at the World Championships in Dubai
Russian boxer Ilya Popov won gold at the World Championships in Dubai (UAE).
Popov defeated Omar Livaz from Kyrgyzstan in the final in the weight category up to 63.5 kg by unanimous decision of the judges.
Popov is 25 years old and a two-time Russian champion.
Earlier, Vsevolod Shumkov (60 kg) won gold at the World Championships in the UAE, Edmond Khudoyan (up to 48 kg), Bair Batlayev (51 kg), Vyacheslav Rogozin (54 kg) won silver, and Andrey Peglivanyan (up to 57 kg) won bronze. Seven more Russians will compete in the final bouts.
Russian athletes perform at the tournament with national symbols – a flag and anthem.
The competition’s prize fund is $8.32 million.
