Undefeated UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria published a statement on social networks in which he said that he had become a victim of extortion.

The Spanish fighter said he received threats to “spread unfounded allegations of domestic violence that will disappear in exchange for money.”

“When circumstances arise that threaten your personal integrity, your family and your reputation, there comes a time when you must address them directly. I have been under significant pressure in recent months, including threats to spread false allegations of domestic violence unless certain financial demands were met.

These accusations are completely unfounded. Truth is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of evidence.

All relevant evidence was carefully preserved and documented, including audio recordings, written communications, witness statements and video footage. This evidence was submitted to the appropriate authorities to initiate legal action in connection with attempted extortion, falsification of documents, misappropriation of funds and personal property, as well as numerous threats.

My initial decision to remain silent was solely to protect my children, who are the most important part of my life. However, I have come to understand that silence in these circumstances does not protect the truth – it allows false ideas to spread.

Those who know me can testify that I have never resorted to violence of any kind and that my life and career have always been based on discipline, respect and honesty. I have complete confidence in the judicial process and will allow the legal system to determine the facts based on the evidence.

Out of respect for my children and the ongoing legal proceedings, I will not be making any further public statements. I respectfully request that you avoid speculation and respect my family’s privacy during this difficult time. The truth does not require volume – it requires facts,” Topuria wrote.

Earlier, the 28-year-old fighter of Georgian origin said that he would not fight in the first quarter of 2026 due to personal problems. American Justin Gaethje and Briton Paddy Pimblett will fight for the interim lightweight belt in the main fight of the UFC 324 tournament on January 24.
