Brazilian fighter Geronimo dos Santos drowned in a tributary of the Amazon

Brazilian mixed martial arts fighter Geronimo dos Santos, nicknamed Mondragon, died by drowning in a tributary of the Amazon at the age of 45, Globo reports.

Dos Santos disappeared on Saturday morning in the city of Sao Gabriel da Cachoeira (Amazonas state in northwestern Brazil) after swimming in the Rio Negro River. It is noted that the fighter did not know how to swim. Dos Santos’ body was found by divers on Monday. Later, the local mayor’s office confirmed the fighter’s death.

Mondragon had a record of 44 wins, 26 losses and one draw in MMA. In April, the Brazilian defeated Russian Alexei Oleynik by knockout in a bare-knuckle fight at the Bare Knuckle FC 71 tournament.
