American Jon Jones, a former UFC champion in the heavy and light heavyweight categories, called the holder of the welterweight belt, Russian Islam Makhachev, one of the greatest fighters of all time.

Makhachev finished 2025 in first place in the UFC rankings, regardless of weight categories. “Islam is definitely one of the greatest fighters of all time. He is an outstanding athlete. Some people are cut out to do great things, and he’s one of those guys. I’m interested in watching his career. He still has a lot to do, but he’s on the right track. He’s one of the guys I have a lot of respect for in this sport,” Jones said in an interview with Red Corner MMA.

34-year-old Makhachev has 28 victories and one defeat in mixed martial arts.
