World champion legendary boxer Alexander Usik is 39 years old
World champion by WBC, WBA and IBF super heavyweight (over 90.7 kg) Alexander Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) turned 39 on Saturday, January 17.
The legendary Ukrainian boxer was born on January 17, 1987 in Simferopol. As a child he attended a football school and played as a side midfielder in the Tavriya youth team.
He started boxing at the age of 15. During his amateur career, he became European and world champion in various weight categories, successfully participated in international tournaments and was a member of the Ukrainian Atamans team in the semi-professional World Series Boxing (WSB) league.
He won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, beating Italian Clemente Russo in the final.
He had his first fight in the professional ring on November 9, 2013 and knocked out Mexican Felipe Romero in the third round.
On October 4, 2014, Usik defeated South African boxer Daniel Brewer by knockout at the end of the seventh round and won his first regional title – interim WBO Inter-Continental champion.
On September 17, 2016, he defeated Polish representative Krzysztof Glowacki and became a full-fledged world champion according to the World Boxing Organization (WBO). The opponent was defeated by unanimous decision.
He put in a successful performance under the auspices of the World Boxing Super Series, defeating German Marco Huck, Latvian Mairis Briedis and Russian Murat Gassiev. He became the absolute world champion in the first heavyweight category.
Usik announced his move to the heavyweight category at the beginning of 2019. In the royal division, Usik became the absolute world champion twice, defeating many famous rivals – Tony Bellew, Dereck Chisora, Anthony Joshua, Daniel Dubois, Tyson Fury.
