Montreal, May 31, 2022 – The Quebec Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the seven personalities who will be inducted into the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.

“The inductees of the 2022 cohort reflect the exceptional richness of Quebec’s sporting heritage. These athletes and builders are great ambassadors for Quebec and it is with great pride that we will welcome them to our Temple among the other immortals who have enriched our sporting heritage, to mention Mr. Jacques Baril, President of the Panthéon des sports du Québec . We have a duty to remember to immortalize their exploits and their achievements so that our sporting history lives on. »

The 2022 cohort is made up of five athletes and two builders. These personalities were chosen by a selection committee of ten members chaired by Mr. Richard de Carufel and made up of athletes who are members of the Hall of Fame as well as personalities from the sports community and the media.

Their consecration in Quebec sports history will take place at the 31st Induction Gala next fall in Montreal.

Erik Guay – Alpine Skiing (Mont-Tremblant)

His many successes on the international scene make him the most decorated Canadian skier in history. In seven appearances at the World Alpine Skiing Championships, he has claimed two world titles (downhill in 2011 and Super G in 2017), in addition to having obtained 25 podiums, including five victories, in 231 World Cup starts. .

Benoît Huot – Para swimming (Longueil)

He is one of Canada’s most decorated athletes with 20 medals in five appearances at the Paralympic Games. A member of the national team from 1998 to 2018, he won more than 30 medals in six World Championships, setting more than 60 world records.

Charline Labonté – Hockey (Greenfield Park)

The second player to play in Canadian major junior hockey, with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in 1999-2000, she won four gold medals at the Winter Olympics (2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014). In Turin in 2006, her exceptional performances in the semi-finals and in the final helped the women’s team to win gold.

Martin St-Louis – Hockey (Laval)

He established himself as one of the best offensive players in the NHL during the 2000s. Totaling 1,033 career points, he won the Art-Ross trophies, twice, Hart, Ted-Lindsay and Lady- Byng, in addition to winning the Stanley Cup in 2004 and Olympic gold in Sochi in 2014.

Georges St-Pierre – Mixed Martial Arts (Saint-Isidore)

One of Canada’s most popular athletes of all disciplines and among the greatest mixed martial arts fighters in history, he is helping to grow the sport globally. UFC welterweight champion, “GSP” still holds the record for the most title defenses in this category, with nine.

Builders

Michelle Gendron – Federated Sport (Trois-Rivières)

Nicknamed “la madame des Jeux du Québec” by Premier René Lévesque, she worked on 40 finals of the Jeux du Québec. Since her beginnings as a volunteer at the first regional Quebec Games, in Joliette, in 1970, until the finals of the Alma Games, in the winter of 2017, she has been there for everyone. She is a communications pioneer in the federated sports community and plays a versatile role at SPORTSQUÉBEC, particularly in matters of representing the interests of the sports community.

Olga Hrycak – Basketball (Montreal)

Her basketball coaching career spans 48 years, leading English Montreal School Board schools, Champlain and Dawson Colleges. In 2003, she made history by becoming the first woman to lead a men’s university basketball program in North America, with the formation of the Citadins de l’UQÀM.
