Loss to Haney and loss of the title for Kambosos
George Kambosos fought hard against Devin Haney but couldn’t keep his belt in Australia.
George Kambosos gave it his all against Devin Haney but that wasn’t enough for the Greek expat to keep the belts in Australia in the game that ended in Melbourne some time ago.
Haney scored a fair win and stayed true to his game plan from the start of the game. The American with the jab weapon and movement around the ring racked up the points he needed to earn victory and be crowned the undisputed champion. He owns the WBO, WBA, WBC, IBF and Ring Magazine and is now the boss in the lightweight category.
Kambosos tried to fight the new champion in the jabs but couldn’t. After the match, the two athletes exchanged compliments, showing that their opponent had calmed down.
When asked about the rematch, Haney stressed that God knows if it will happen, but he doesn’t forget the fact that Kambosos gave him the opportunity to win the titles.
For his part, the expat Greek paid his respects and admitted defeat but expects to resist a second time.
Haney equaled his record at 28-0 while Kambosos is at 20-1.
