Devin Haney is the absolute champion. Disassembled Kambosos claims to be megaboy
Devin Haney puts George Kambosos on the shelves. As much as we Ukrainians sympathize with the Australian for his position on Ukraine and his ability to keep his word, even if Lomachenko was able to take the opposite corner, George still lost. And he lost quite a bit to a much better boxer.
Haney looked great. In terms of boxing, he’s strong and cool. And maybe even better – one hundred percent
Devin did not leave a single chance to his opponent. Kambosos looked confused, and Haney generally understood everything.
It cannot be said that Haney can offer something radically new, or that Kambosos can offer something that has never been seen before. George has met the Americans and he knows what they do, how they do it, and how they do it. However, this time I encountered a level that Teofimo Lopez could not deliver.
The main thing that Kambosos managed to achieve in his meeting with Lopez was to take him quickly, having to take into account the strength of the blow. He tried to do that here as well, as soon as the needle flew out of Devin, he threw his right hand at him – they all strayed from the target. Haney did not fully absorb or avoid this blow – he never let them reach him due to timing and hard pressure.
Kambosos realized that things wouldn’t work out and started rebuilding. Tried playing jab – didn’t work. In lightness, it is unlikely that there will be enough boxers to compete with Haney in speed and time to bring the front hand to his opponent. I tried to go close – there Devin studied reasonably and calmly in the clinic. In fact, the Australian did not gain any advantage where he had the chance.
Then came the work on the hull. Here Kambosos really and regularly received. But that didn’t help either. Haney didn’t slow down, hit less, didn’t change at all. He continued to work as if his opponent had not hit the body.
We saw the classic Devin in response. With an instant and steady beat, with a sense of distance and timing. Strong boxing from a strong lightness.
Haney did everything Teofimo couldn’t. He poked well, kept his opponent away from him, opened up the strong when he was too close, and worked almost perfectly in defense. And he is only 23 years old! Five years from now, Devin will be a crazy top boxer by the time George reaches his current age. They write about the new Mayweather in America, and it seems that this is not far from the truth.
What’s next?
There are two options for Kambosos: rematch or boxing. The first is in the contract. And boxing will have to be in Australia again. Is it interesting? Tough.
The fight wasn’t very active and George doesn’t have as many chances as he thought:
“I respect him. We’re going to do it again. I need to practice a few things, but I think the fight was very close. It’s boxing. You fight best. That’s what we’re talking about,” said Kambosos right after the fight.
The chance of a rematch is even less. Devin is used to his opponents and will do even more in the second match and hit more often. It is better to go further – in light weight there are many opponents that George can overcome.
For Haney, hope is the sea. Lomachenko will definitely want to meet again and buy or collect the belts. It’s a tough fight for both. Gervonta Davis called Devin before meeting with Romero. A lot of money and a tough fight for both. Ryan Garcia wants to beat Fortuna and go to Haney for the winter. Closing the amateur shootout – there are 3-3 points.
And in all these fights, at least Devin won’t be an outsider. Calm, skilled and balanced enough to thrive under pressure and as a warrior at the highest level.
One of the light weight raids is finally ready.
