Fedor Emelianenko took over as president of the Russian MMA Union, Match TV reports.
Emelianenko received the position during an extraordinary reporting and election conference, although he did not initially nominate a candidate.
According to the source, one of the two candidates, Andrei Terentyev, withdrew from the election. The second contender was the current president of the organization Radmir Gabdullin.
Emelianenko headed the MMA Union of Russia until 2018, subsequently holding the position of Chairman of the Supervisory Board. In early April, the 45-year-old functionary announced his withdrawal from the organization, in a personal conversation asked Gabdullin to leave his post and openly supported Terentyev’s candidacy in an appeal to the heads of regional federations.
