“We will not encourage hatred” Failed blackmail left Ukraine without competition

An unexpected decision in favor of athletes from Russia. Blackmail Ukrainians did not work!

Ukrainian sport is going through hard times now. Not all athletes can train normally and perform at major tournaments. But even those who are ready to compete on the international stage are now at risk of forced isolation due to the behavior of their sports officials.

Ukrainian judokas also got into such a situation. The local federation delivered a cruel ultimatum to the international, trying to achieve the complete removal of Russia from all tournaments. However, the blackmail was not successful.

Now the Ukrainians themselves will be left without competition?

“In judo we will not encourage division and hatred”

Now it is rather problematic to see representatives of our country on the international arena due to their total exclusion from competitions. However, in the case of judo, everything turned out differently: our federation itself announced a boycott of visiting tournaments, without waiting for sanctions.

However, recently the parties seem to have managed to find a compromise. The International Judo Federation (IJF) stood up for justice and announced the participation of our athletes in the upcoming Grand Slam tournament, which will be held in Mongolia on June 24-26.

Representatives of Ukrainian sports, of course, did not like it very much. And they sent an open letter to the IJF:

– In case of admission of athletes from Russia and Belarus in a neutral status to participate in competitions under the auspices of the International Judo Federation, we decided to refuse the participation of Ukrainian national judo teams in all sports events of the International Judo Federation and to be suspended from participation in competitions in any status of national teams in judo of Russia and Belarus, – says in the message of the President of the Judo Federation of Ukraine.

The IJF reacted rather quickly, although the issue before the federation was serious: in fact, the official had to choose between Ukraine and Russia.

Usually our athletes in such cases need to prepare for the worst, but not this time. The leaders of the organization did not go along with the FDU. They did not remove the Russian and Belarusian teams:

— Judo is an art, a philosophy and a way of life… Sport is and will always be a kind of bridge between peoples. Young people, and especially athletes, should be role models for their own and for future generations… In judo, we will not encourage division and hatred. We must live together now and in the future. No negative force should divide a family like a judo family, and moreover, I believe that we should be an example for other communities as well, — reported in the text of a reply letter from IJF President Marius Wieser.

“We will not participate in the starts”

The response of the International Judo Federation certainly pleased the Russian athletes. They will compete in major competitions with the strongest athletes from around the world. In Ukraine, the IJF response was accepted without enthusiasm:

– Contrary to the recommendations of the IOC and the March decision of the IJF on the removal of Russian and Belarusian athletes from all starts, now they have outplayed everything. There is the position of the IJF, and I am grateful to them for the answer. And there is the position of the FDU, which we announced earlier – if Russian and Belarusian judoists are not suspended from competitions, we will not participate in starts under the auspices of the IJF. There will be no new announcements. We simply cannot do otherwise,” Mikhail Koshlyak, President of the Judo Federation of Ukraine, wrote on his social networks.

In other words, according to Koshlyak, the IJF simply forced Ukraine to withdraw. Having taken the position of peacefulness, the International Federation actually left the national team without competition. Moreover, not only in June – the country will miss all future tournaments where Russian athletes will appear.

Despite the failure in the blackmail attempt, the official has already announced that he will continue to stick to his line. He has already scheduled meetings with the head of the NOC of Ukraine, Serhiy Bubka, and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Vadym Gutzeit, to develop a new strategy for the removal of Russian athletes. True, there are more and more doubts about the effectiveness of such measures after the recent precedent.

Inoue showed his superiority over another opponent. Who will stop him?

On December 27, the Samurai Night tournament was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. As part of the main event of the card, Japanese absolute world champion Naoya Inoue (32-0, 27 KOs) defended his status in the fight against 25-year-old Mexican representative David Allen Picasso (32-1-1, 17 KOs).

This was Naoya’s fourth fight of 2025. He made a confident move towards the Japanese mega-fight against Junto Nakatani, who also boxed on the card.

Picasso didn’t stand a chance. Inoue showed that boxing is ten times better!

Naoya Inoue is the absolute most active and generally the most active boxer among those who are usually among the leaders in the pound-for-pound rankings (the best boxers outside their weight categories). Terence Crawford has been away from the ring for a year. He returned to defeat Saul Alvarez before announcing his retirement.

Alexander Usyk returned to the ring faster. He beat Daniel Dubois in 5 rounds and refused to box again. He even left his WBO belt vacant because he didn’t want to fight Fabio Wardley.

Naoya Inoue promised to get in the ring four times and he kept his promise. Moreover, he was not afraid of anyone. Organizations met anyone they put in front of them. Thus, he defeated Ye Jun Kim, Ramon Cardenas and Murodjon Akhmadaliev. And today David Picasso.

The Mexican was not considered the main threat to the Japanese on this list. This status was given to him only by Mexicans and Picasso’s fans. However, Murodjon Akhmadaliev was considered the main contender for victory. And the Japanese, by the decision of the judges, defeated him without any chance.

With his long arms, great height and good striking ability, Picasso was still not the number one candidate to win. But it’s a pretty good competitor and boxer to say this wasn’t a close match. But Inoue created the conditions to make it seem like the opponent was a nobody.

Naoya did whatever he wanted in the ring. I wanted to pin him near the ropes and in the corners. If he wanted, he could take his opponent out of there. He boxed if necessary. You quarreled with your opponent if you need to give something new. He hit my head and hit my torso. The only thing Inoue couldn’t achieve was a knockout.

The Japanese hit hard. Many of them were achieved with clean blows. But David Picasso endured. He withstood everything: both in the head and in the body. Both combination hits and one-time hits. Credit must be given to the Mexican here.

Picasso also landed some good left hooks. They dribbled past the opponent’s defense and didn’t exactly stun him, but they struck often enough to make those shots count. At the same time, David’s team also paid attention to this. They said until the end that this was his chance. They motivated him before the championship round by telling him that all he had to do was hit the side kick and everything would come.

However, the conversations remained at the level of theoretical visions of the situation. Picasso’s hits posed no real threat to Inoue. Naoya ate what he slept on. And he did not allow others to hit him.

Final referee decisions: 119–109, 120–108 and 117–111. Unanimous decision in favor of the Japanese champion.

What happens now?

If nothing goes wrong, there is a meeting with Junto Nakatani in the future. What could get in your way? It’s hard to come up with ideas here. Maybe it’s a fight that makes even more money.

But it is difficult to imagine such a rival right now. Inoue won’t go higher yet. And the same Jesse Rodriguez will not be promoted from the minor leagues yet.

Does Junto have a chance? Theoretically, everyone has a chance. The problem is the practicality of using all this. Nakatani showed that he had many problems.

His match against Sebastian Reyes was not an outstanding start in the new league, but something resembling a defeat. It cannot be said that Junto definitely lost. However, he did not win. A draw would be a logical decision.

Reyes hit too hard and caused a hematoma to form on his opponent’s face. And Nakatani lasted so long against his opponent that Inoue could have knocked him out more than once during this period.

but confrontation will still sell. First of all, the dominant Naoi no longer has any other rivals. He needs to switch majors to get them, and he doesn’t plan on doing that. Secondly, everyone in Japan will come to see the two idols. It will be possible to fill any large arena. You can even sell streams to local audiences. And these are excellent controls and just a historical event.

A competitive struggle is not always a profitable one. The meeting between Spence and Crawford wasn’t competitive, but it worked. More than 30 million people watched the fight between Joshua and Paul, but it was not clear what happened. Nakatani vs. Inoue looks like a fight that could be both more competitive and raise enough money.

And if it doesn’t work competitively, nothing can be done. This means Naoya will prove once again that he is the undisputed leaderR.

Tsarukyan – about the grappling fight with Shara Bullet: “During the process, he became afraid. I was late for my flight and didn’t board the plane.”

UFC fighter Arman Tsarukyan said that a grappling fight with Sharabutdin Magomedov, nicknamed Shara Bullet, may not take place.

The fight is scheduled for December 30 and should take place in Armenia.

“He’s some kind of strange pirate.” Doesn’t want to take over Armenia. Along the way, he became afraid. I was late for my flight and didn’t board the plane. Along the way, all his conversations were just water.

Let’s see, there will be a press conference. Whether this pirate will come or not. If not, then his nickname needs to be changed. You understand which one,” Tsarukyan said while communicating with fans on social networks.

Tsarukyan defeated New Zealander Dan Hooker by submission in the second round at UFC Fight Night 265 in November 2025. He has 23 wins and three losses in MMA.

Middleweight Magomedov fought his last fight in July 2025 at the UFC on ABC 9 tournament, defeating Canadian Marc-Andre Barrio by unanimous decision. The Russian has 16 wins and one loss.

Famous British organizer Frank Warren He commented on the situation around the world heavyweight champion according to WBC, WBA and IBF Alexandra Usika.

“We’ll see what happens with Oleksandr Usyk. He’s only fought once this year, which has had a negative impact on his high-level title fights. He needs to defend his belts next year. If he doesn’t do that, he’ll have to give up his titles,” Warren said.

Previously, Alexander Usik (24-0, 15 KOs), the holder of the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles (over 90.7 kg), talked about his plans and admitted when he plans to end his professional career. The boxer recently vacated his WBO title and lost his status as absolute world champion.
