Mateusz Gamrot defeated Arman Tsarukyan in a close contest that ended in a unanimous decision from the judges who all three handed a 48-47 card in favor of Gamrot. The two rising stars of the lightweight division would face off in the main event of the UFC Fight Night gala presented in Las Vegas.
The two fighters went blow for blow. Tsarukyan hit the target 109 times in 266 shots (41%) against 91 in 172 (53%) for Gamrot. The Pole Gamrot managed six takedowns against only one for the Armenian.
Tsarukyan was the better of the two fighters in the first two rounds, but the next three rounds went to Gamrot’s favor.
Tsarukyan, who occupied the 11e ranked in the UFC lightweight rankings, had won his most recent five fights after losing to Islam Makhachev in his debut with the organization. Makhachev occupies number 4 in the category. Tsarukyan’s last two victories, acquired by K.-O. against Christos Giagos and Joel Alvarez, earned him the Performance of the Evening bonus.
Prior to the fight, Gamrot was not on the division standings, but he had won his last three bouts after losing on his debut. Guram Kutateladze then won by split decision.
