The weight race destroyed the rival of the Russian fighter. He didn’t even make it to the weigh-in.
The Kyrgyz had to be dragged under the arms to the scales. Championship belt in our pocket?
Getting rid of extra pounds for many fighters is a huge problem. To keep within the desired weight category, athletes often go to extreme measures.
Exhausting preparation for the weighing procedure sometimes leads athletes to sad consequences. The opponent of our fighter also faced such a problem.
An athlete from Kyrgyzstan risked his own health for a chance to fight for the champion title, but he could not even make it to the weigh-in.
“There are still “moments” on the scales
On July 3, the MMA Open FC promotion will hold the next, already twentieth tournament in the Kyrgyz city of Osh. As part of this event, a duel for the championship belt between Russian fighter Alexei Shaposhnikov (9-3) and undefeated representative of Kyrgyzstan Asylbek Rustambek (5-0) was expected.
The fight was supposed to take place in the flyweight category (56.7 kg.). But even a day before the weigh-in, the Kyrgyz fighter had big problems with weight. The promotion even posted a separate video on their social networks, where you can see how Asylbek is desperately trying to shed extra grams on the treadmill in a tracksuit and hat, despite the fact that in Osh these days the thermometer does not drop below 30 degrees.
— Make way for the young: Asylbek Rustambek is the youngest contender for the OPEN FC league belt. days before weighing. There are still “moments” on the scales that need to be solved by morning. Give support to Asylbek! – Signed representatives of the promotion posted a video on social networks.
Kyrgyz fans of mixed martial arts unanimously supported their compatriot, leaving several dozen comments under the post with a wish to make the necessary weight.
Brought to the scales in a semi-conscious state
During the night, he had to lose more than one kilogram in order to meet the desired weight category. At the appointed time, two people from the fighter’s team literally led the exhausted Rustambek to the weighing procedure. Asylbek could not even take off his shorts on his own, he had to be undressed. After that, the assistants helped the athlete stand on the scales, but alas, all the efforts of the fighter were in vain. He exceeded the required limit by 900 grams.
Immediately after the weigh-in, the disappointed athlete’s condition worsened. He was laid on the floor in the training room where the procedure took place, and they began to solder him with water in order to somehow bring Rustambek to his senses.
Such a significant advantage did not suit the organizers of the fight. As a result, the Kyrgyz lost the right to fight for the championship belt. For him, this fight turned into a rating one. At the same time, for Alexei Shaposhnikov, the fight remains the title. To become a champion, he needs to defeat Rustambek in the octagon.
Obviously, it will now be much easier for a Russian to cope with an exhausted opponent.

2020 Olympics champion boxer Batyrgaziev decided to take a break from his career
Olympic champion and former interim WBA super featherweight champion Albert Batyrgaziev decided to take a break from his professional career.
At the beginning of July in Istanbul at the “IBA.PRO 8” tournament, Batyrgaziev lost early to the British James Dickens and lost the IBA.PRO champion and interim WBA champion titles in the second featherweight division. For the 27-year-old Russian, this was the first defeat in his professional career.
— I want to tell you honestly about my plans. Many people ask about their future career. Now I have decided to take a conscious break from my professional career. For me, boxing has been and remains a huge part of my life. Therefore, this choice is now very difficult. My whole sports life has been a race to the top: four Russian championships, an Olympic medal in Tokyo and then turning professional, where I went undefeated.
The last fight on July 2 was a turning point for me. The first defeat made me look at many things differently. I thank Allah for the trials and mercies that helped me become a better person. Since I have always felt a responsibility not only in the ring, but also before society, now is the time to become more active in projects that I have long planned, for example, supporting the development of sports infrastructure in my native regions. This doesn’t mean I’m saying goodbye to the ring. I remain an active boxer. But now all my work is outside of it. I thank everyone for their incredible support along this path: both in moments of triumph and in moments of challenge. She gives strength. I promise this new chapter will be just as honest and purposeful. I’m not saying goodbye, I’m just saying “goodbye,” Batyrgaziev wrote in the Telegram channel.
Batyrgaziev won gold in the weight category up to 57 kg at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. In the professional ring he has 12 wins and one loss.
