The UFC 276 card presented Saturday in Las Vegas was the scene of the swansong of one of the most popular fighters in the history of the organization.

In a preliminary card fight, Jim Miller (35-16-1) became the winningest fighter in UFC history by signing his 23rd victory in the organization, all at the expense of another veteran, Donald Cerrone (36-17, 2).

Miller, whose 40th career fight in the UFC, won in spectacular fashion, by submission with a guillotine in the second round.

Cerrone, who has not savored victory in his last seven fights (six defeats and one dismissal), announced his retirement at the end of his defeat.

“I don’t like it anymore,” Cerrone admitted simply after dropping his cowboy hat and gloves in the center of the octagon. It’s the longest training camp I’ve had in a long time and it’s become difficult to get up to train. I’m not really complaining, but I don’t like it anymore. I will become a movie star, baby!

“It’s the perfect event for that: a packed house, in Las Vegas, in front of my friends. I’ve had quite the career and I hope to be in the Hall of Fame one day. Thanks to the UFC! »

“Donald is a legend,” added Miller. I admire him and I am one of his fans. We will miss him. I wanted the opportunity to share the octagon with him because I knew it would be a special fight. »
