Cornwall boxer Tony Luis and Albertan Steve Claggett will face off August 6 at the Civic Complex in Cornwall in an event presented by Liveco Boxing, Eye of the Tiger Management announced Monday.

This matchup against Claggett (31-7-2, 21 KOs) will be the 35th career outing for Luis (29-5, 10 KOs), who will try to break his two-game losing streak. He lost his duel against John Bauza by unanimous decision last March at Madison Square Garden as well as that against Arnold Barboza Jr at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in August 2020.

“Claggett and I have had similar journeys: defying the odds, forging our way as warriors and competing at the highest level without looking back,” Luis said in a statement. “We always knew this day would come, but we didn’t know when. Now we know it, and it’s the fans who will be the big winners.”

For his part, Claggett has remained active over the past few months earning back-to-back knockout victories. Last March against Argentinian Sebastian Ezequiel Aguirre during their fight at the Casino de Montreal, and previously during his confrontation last August against veteran Noe Emanuel Lopez.

“This is a great fight for Canadian boxing where two true warriors, who are still giving it their all in the ring after a decade of practicing the toughest sport in the world, will finally face off.” Claggett commented. “Now we’re going to see who worked the hardest, who put in the most effort and who will come out on top when the bell rings. This fight has been brewing for a long time and there will be no turning back. Let’s see who wants it more,” added the Calgary native.
