Already this month, boxing fans are expecting one of the main fights of the year, and even in the “royal” heavyweight. However, close attention is riveted to him not only for sports reasons. After all, the undefeated fighter from Ukraine Oleksandr Usyk will fight with Briton Anthony Joshua.

Recently, Alexander Povetkin unexpectedly took part in the promotion of the battle. The boxer said that he would support his Ukrainian colleague, although most recently Usyk’s wife rudely insulted the Russian.

On August 20, Saudi Arabia will host a boxing rematch between undefeated Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and Briton Anthony Joshua. From the very announcement of the upcoming fight, which had already been postponed once, famous boxers from all over the world gave predictions for the fight.

Alexander Povetkin also expressed his opinion about the upcoming fight. Contrary to the expectations of many, the Russian fighter once again came out in support of his Ukrainian colleague:

I will root for Usyk. In the first fight, he did everything right, did not miss. The only thing here is if Joshua changes something in his preparation and plan, then it might be something different. And so, I think Usyk should win,” Povetkin said.

Earlier, other Russians also expressed support for the Ukrainian heavyweight: ex-champions Nikolay Valuev and Sergey Lipinets. However, in the case of the Russian Vityaz, such statements are also dictated by the personal attitude of the fighter towards the Ukrainian.

Povetkin and Usik repeatedly supported each other, met before and after their fights, took joint photos. For example, Usyk looked into Povetkin’s locker room before Vityaz’s fight with Hughie Fury, Tyson Fury’s cousin. The Russian, in 2019, came to congratulate Vasily Lomachenko on his victory over Luke Campbell, where he also crossed paths with Usyk. The video caught a friendly conversation of namesakes, after which the Ukrainian did not hide his smile.

However, the recent comments of Ekaterina Usik, the wife of the boxer, could well spoil the relationship between colleagues. In March, the girl attacked Povetkin with insults:

Later, Ekaterina gave a more detailed comment on this topic in an interview on YouTube:

The fact that Povetkin began to tell something there – he does not understand anything at all. Povetkin Sasha started calling, telling some stories, that something is wrong with you, something seems to you. That is, how can he even know what we have? And plus, many were frostbitten, did not support at all, did not write anything. That is, in peacetime there were some phone calls, a brotherly heart, this, that, that. Now I’m looking – what a brotherly heart, my God? Catherine said.

Apparently, Alexander did not take these words to heart. Either Catherine’s statements simply did not hear. Be that as it may, Povetkin did not change his position regarding Usyk over time – and adequately responded to his wife’s attack.
