Virgil Ortiz defeated British McKinson ahead of schedule.
American heavyweight prospect Virgil Ortiz (19-0, 19 KOs) Briton scored an early victory over Michael McKinson (22-1, 2 KOs).
Ortiz almost always dominated, knocking his opponent down with a blow to the liver at the end of the eighth round.
At the start of the ninth three-minute period, McKinson returned to the canvas, then stood up and was ready to continue the fight. Brit’s corner decided otherwise and threw in the towel.
Ortiz defended the WBO International belt and must now fight for a full-fledged championship belt.
