Igonin believes that Spartak plays bold football under Abaskal

Former Zenit midfielder Alexei Igonin admitted that he likes the way head coach Guillermo Abascal works at Spartak, who, in his opinion, is not afraid to change tactics in difficult situations.

– Very soon the match of the first teams of “Spartak” and “Zenith”. Can you tell me your prediction for the game?

– There is no forecast. I want to watch the game, – Igonin is quoted by KP Sport. – Everything that concerns Zenit, we know, there are no big changes. But there was a lot of talk about Spartak. And in this match it will be clear how much Spartak has changed, how much better it is. A few years ago, it was possible to determine the level of teams both by European championships and national team games. And now there are not many matches on which you can draw a conclusion. This game will be spectacular.

– Now there is only one point in the standings between Spartak and Zenit. Are these problems with the St. Petersburg team or are the Red-Whites so good?

– With Zenit, everything is as usual. In games where there is insufficient emotional mood, it is difficult to achieve results. And the opponents wisely choose tactics against Zenit to prevent them from playing. But for Spartak, something new. Plus, the gap in the class between the top five RPL and the last has grown significantly. So looking at their level and counting points is not very correct.

– But preliminary inputs for the same “Spartak” can already be done?

– Yes. I like the way their coach works. It can be seen that Abascal is not afraid. Set to football. In difficult situations, he changes both tactics and players, and interferes with the game during the match. But again, much depended on the opponent.

After seven rounds of the Russian Championship, Zenit tops the table with 17 points. Spartak (16) is on the second line.
