Midfielder Mathias Normann will not be called up to the Norwegian national team due to signing a contract with the Russian club.
As reported on the official website of the Norwegian Football Association, the head coach of the national team, Stole Solbakken, has already contacted the player and informed him that he will not be among those invited to the national team due to the player’s expected transfer to a new Russian club. Earlier, Rostov confirmed that the player is close to moving to Dynamo.
– Initially, it was not the task of the federation to say anything about the choice of clubs by the players of the national team, but now we are in an extraordinary situation. All Norwegian and European football agrees to put joint pressure on Russia. All Russian teams are prohibited from participating in international sports competitions. Stole and I agree that Normann cannot represent Norway as he will be playing for a new Russian club,” said Lise Claveness, president of the Norwegian Football Association.
26-year-old Norman has been playing for Rostov since 2019.
