Honorary President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov called the announcement that a friendly match between the national teams of Russia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will take place in November a major breakthrough.
On Friday, the Bosnian Football Union announced that the national team of their country and Russia will play on November 19 in St. Petersburg. The RFU has officially confirmed that an agreement in principle has been reached on holding a friendly match with the Bosnian team.
– I have a positive attitude towards this match. The team has not played for a long time. Each game of the national team is a confirmation that we have not fallen out of the cage of international football. All this is very important. It’s one thing to play with teams that are registered with the Asian Football Federation – Iran and Kyrgyzstan. The other is with the national team, which is under the auspices of UEFA. This can be considered a major breakthrough. God forbid that no one interferes with this, that no political forces intervene. This would be a good signal, including at the upcoming UEFA Executive Committee, which will determine whether to include Russia in the draw for the European Championship 2024. We can congratulate the RFU on a very serious achievement, – said Koloskov to the “Championship”.
Earlier, the RFU announced that the Russian national team will play a friendly match with Kyrgyzstan on the road on September 24. It was also reported that the RFU agreed to hold an away game with Iran in November.
In February, FIFA and UEFA decided to suspend all Russian teams from participating in tournaments under the auspices of these organizations until further notice. UEFA stated that it has nothing against hosting a friendly match between the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Russian team in St. Petersburg.
