One of the groups does not have a single leader.
The week of the Champions League was remembered primarily for the defeat of Barcelona, the victories of Chelsea over Milan and Brugge over Atlético, the defeat of Ajax against Napoli. But here are some highlights of the Europa League.
“Red Star” dismantled “Ferencvaros”
Stanislav Cherchesov’s departments still dominate the national arena: they are at the top of the standings, ahead of the closest rival by 2 points and have 2 games in hand. However, the last two meetings were not very successful: Ferencvaros lost to Kecskemét, who is in second place in the Hungarian league. And now they have received a defeat from Red Star Zvezda, the last team in Europa League Group H.
The Serbs took the initiative from the very beginning of the match – they owned the ball more often, moving on to the last third. Zvezda used both hips to develop the attack, hit from a distance, made penetrating passes, serves. As a result, the goals turned out to be different. The first is due to a penalty. Mitrovic later scored, knocking out a defender. The third and fourth balls are shots by Aleksandar Katai and Gelor Kang from outside the box.
It is indicative that Ferencvaros also scored their only goal, being under tight control: a touchdown helped.
Despite the defeat, the great Hungarian maintains the leadership in his quartet, an extremely unexpected result. Both Red Star, Trabzonspor and Monaco have more expensive and high quality teams. And Ferencvaros manages to beat both the Turks (3: 2) and the Monegasques (1: 0). The opponents still have enough time to rectify the situation, but a 3-point lead at the equator of the group is a good start.
Roma got burned with Betis
Mourinho wants to win the Conference League again – the Romans take 3rd place in Group C. Eldor Shomurodov again flew past the start and even at the end of the match with Betis he did not appear on the pitch.
It is also possible to justify such a decision: Roma tried to keep the draw. The Italian giant took the lead in the 34th minute, Paulo Dybala scored from the spot. The team likes to win by the smallest margin, but Betis have decided to prevent it: Guido Rodriguez equalized just before the end of the first half.
Jose wanted to refresh the attacking group to get the most out of it: instead of Dybala and Abraham, El Shaarawy and Belotti came out. But very close to the end of the match, Betis took the lead and maintained the lead.
Ludogorets took advantage of the opponent’s misfire: the Bulgarians now have a 1 point advantage and in the next round they have every chance to increase it.
Manchester United victory over Omonia may be missing
The weekend ended very badly for the Mancunians: in the derby with Manchester City the “citizens” dismantled the “Red Devils”. We acted better in attack, we broke the pressure and we had no problem finding a shot. 3: 6 – the strongest blow to “United” pride.
For the match THE ten Hag slightly changes the starting lineup – Dalot comes out in place of Varan, McTominay on the bench, Casemiro comes out from the first minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo is at the forefront.
It’s still Manchester United I had to win back from 0: 1 after the first half – this is when you dominate action with the ball and create chances. The Dutch coach trusted the revived Marcus Rashford and he didn’t let us down. The Englishman dug in on the left wing and equalized in the 53rd minute – he didn’t go offside, so he took advantage of the fact that the opposing defender gave him free space to strike. Marcus also assisted Martial in the moment with the second ball and scored the winner.
He was the star of the night at United: he opened big for long passes, held the ball and made a much bigger contribution to Jadon’s attack. Without him, the English team would have been much less dangerous.
This is confirmed by the words of ten Hag on the decisive role of substitutions:
At half-time I told the players to run more, we were too static. The opponent must be forced to move so that there is an opportunity to open up behind him. So we made two substitutions. And the replacements really made a huge impact today.
Midtjylland recovered 0-2 against Feyenoord
The Danish team is inferior to their opponents in terms of class and selection of players, but shows themselves more solidly. “Wolves” pressed on the opponent, tried to block all transmission lines. In the case of Sebastian Szymanski’s goal, that didn’t help, and a penalty was awarded in the 45th minute.
In the second half the Danes managed to bring the ball into the last third, creating quite dangerous chances. Feyenoord’s slowness in the 54th minute led to Gustav Isaksen being alone in a lethal position. He scored to the touch.
But the hosts’ second goal turned out to be the most beautiful: despite the Dutch having a numerical advantage in the penalty area, Evander managed to give Juninho the lead. He bypassed Hanko on his feet and tied the score.
The courage of the Danes gave us an interesting alignment in group F. None of the teams have an advantage, they all have 4 points after three rounds. The Dutch are ahead only for the best difference between goals scored and conceded. In the 3 remaining games, both the favorite – Lazio, and the outsiders – Midtjylland or Sturm can go out in the lead.
