Malafeev believes that the Petrovsky stadium should be preserved as a monument

Former Zenit goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeev believes that the Petrovsky stadium in St. Petersburg should be preserved as a monument, while the arena could use a museum.

The stadium was built in 1925. Zenit played at Petrovsky in 1994-2017. During this time, the club won four league titles, as well as the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

– Of course, I would like the Petrovsky stadium to remain as a monument. For me, this place is associated with nostalgia for past years, and not only for me, but also for other players and fans. But still, I am in favor of everything developing and moving forward. This is a unique place with its own atmosphere, which should not be idle, – Malafeev said in an interview with Sport Day after Day.

— I am in favor of creating some new sports or sports and entertainment infrastructure in this place. This would add to the attractiveness of Petrovsky Island itself as such. Naturally, a museum also needs to be created here so that people understand that there was a stadium where Zenit won and achieved results for many years, ”added Malafeev.

Zenit has been playing at the Gazprom Arena since 2017.
