Karlsruhe defender Marcel Franke missed the second Bundesliga match against Darmstadt because he is a registered stem cell donor.
Before the match, Franke received a message that it was his cell type that was urgently needed to help a person in need. The player responded to the call and went to the hospital. He wrote about it on a social network.
“Many thanks to the medical team around me. Thanks to you, I was able to donate my stem cells to someone who is fighting blood cancer today,” he wrote.
Later, journalists from some publications reported that Franke would soon return to Karlsruhe.
The 29-year-old has made 12 appearances this season and scored one goal.
