Real Madrid president confirms club’s attempts to sign Neymar
Real Madrid President Florentino Perez spoke via video link during Neymar’s trial, where he spoke about the club’s attempts to sign the Brazilian.
The Barcelona Court of Appeal held a corruption trial in the transfer of Neymar from Santos to Barcelona in 2013. Earlier, the Spanish prosecutor’s office demanded two years in prison and a fine of 10 million euros for the attacker.
— I did not participate in the negotiations. The first offer was made in the amount of 30 million euros. We didn’t know about Neymar’s agreement with Barcelona. I didn’t know about the need to pay any fine to Barça if I signed it. In 2011, Real Madrid made an offer to Santos for Neymar of 45 million. But the players go where they want.
I don’t know Neymar, I’ve never spoken to him on a personal level. I’ve been at Real Madrid for 18 years and all the offers we made to the players were transparent,” Perez said.
