“I would like to thank everyone associated with Aston Villa for the support given to me during my time at the club. I want to thank the board of directors, the players and all the staff for their hard work.

Fans, I’m sorry it didn’t work out in the end, but I’m indebted to you for the way you accepted me and continued to support the team during difficult times. Aston Villa is a club with a special history, I really wanted to return it to its former greatness, but, unfortunately, this was not destined to come true. I wish everyone at the club all the best for the future,” Gerrard wrote on the social network.
