Ex-Manchester City employee jailed for stealing money from the club to pay for her wedding
Fiona Barclay, a former Manchester City employee, will serve a one-year and six-month prison sentence for embezzling £104,000 from the club’s coffers.
The 33-year-old woman worked as a business development manager in the hospitality department of a football club. After being caught cheating, she told police that she used the stolen money to pay for her wedding and buy “gifts” for her husband and family.
A club investigation found that Barclay had been siphoning money from the club since June 2019, according to the Daily Mail.
It is noted that the woman has already returned Manchester City 15,000 pounds. Barclay was sacked from the club in March last year.
