The current head of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, will have no opponents in the organization’s presidential elections next year, according to the FIFA website.
Before the deadline for nominating candidates, which expired on Thursday, only one application was submitted “on time and in the prescribed form” – Infantino. On Wednesday, the German Football Association (DFB) announced that it would not run for FIFA president.
The election of the head of the organization should take place at the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali (Rwanda) on March 16, 2023.
Infantino, 52, took over FIFA in 2016 after Josef Blatter left the organization’s presidency amid a corruption scandal. In 2019, the Swiss-Italian functionary was re-elected as the head of FIFA.
