A British fan was not immediately allowed into the World Cup match in Qatar because of the image of a naked statue on a T-shirt similar to Michelangelo’s famous sculpture “David”, reports news.
Simon Sewell, who lives in Dubai, traveled to the Evolution City Stadium in R Rayyan to attend the 2022 World Cup group stage game between South Korea and Ghana (2:3). Several arena employees at the entrance looked at his T-shirt and asked him to take it off.
They said, “This is not normal.” They said we had to wait. I said it’s a statue! But everyone continued to say no and did not express any position on this matter. Fortunately, the head of the security service approached us, he said that it was a monument, and they let me through. It was funny. We missed the start of the game. This is a pretty expensive T-shirt. I was not going to give it away, – said the 33-year-old fan.
Sewell also wore the shirt to another World Cup match, but at the time the image was hidden by a backpack, so he doesn’t think he was questioned.
