The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is allowing fans to attend some Africa Cup of Nations matches for free until around 20 minutes after kick-off. This was reported by Agence France-Presse (Afp) citing a CAF source.
The agency cited as an example the match between the national teams of Cameroon and Gabon in the first round of Group F. As the agency notes, immediately before the start of the match, the stands were almost empty, but in the first half they filled up. The match ended with the score 1:0 in favor of the Cameroonians. This has happened in many other games as well.
24 teams are participating in the Africa Cup of Nations, divided into 6 groups, and the competition takes place in Morocco. The teams occupying the first two positions in the groups and the four best teams in the third positions will enter the playoffs. The round of 16 will take place from 3 to 6 January, the quarter-finals on 9 and 10 January and the semi-finals on 14 January. The third place match will take place on January 17 in Casablanca, the final on January 18 in Rabat.
