Former CSKA head coach Valery Gazzaev commented on the defeat of the Spanish national team in the 1/8 final match of the 2022 World Cup with Morocco (0:0, 0:3 on penalties).
– I think the Spanish national team is to blame for the defeat from the Moroccan national team. It seems that the most important thing in the Spanish game is ball control. They controlled the game throughout the match, but created practically nothing at the gates of Morocco. When it was possible to sharply attack, they began to open the defense due to a positional attack. But this is also because the Moroccan national team played very organized – they were sharper in using counterattacks. Now this is football.
The Spanish national team was originally one of the favorites of the tournament: a young, promising team. Control for the sake of control is useless. We need to attack more aggressively. As a result, the Spaniards stepped on the same rake as four years ago in Russia, – quotes the words of Gazzaev “Championship”.
