Karim Benzema retires from the French national team

French striker Karim Benzema has announced his retirement from the national team.
The current owner of the Golden Ball was supposed to play for the French team at the 2022 World Cup, but was injured in training and did not play a single match in the tournament.
The French team at the 2022 World Cup took second place, losing in the final to Argentina (3:3, 2:4 – on pen.).
“I have worked hard and made mistakes to be who I am today and I am proud of it!” I wrote my story and our story ends,” Benzema wrote on social media.
Benzema made 97 appearances for France, scoring 37 goals.
