Former Zenit midfielder Pavel Mogilevets told Sport24 about playing for Petersburgers under the guidance of Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu in the 2016/17 season.
– Why didn’t you stay with Berdyev in Rostov?
– Lucescu said he was counting on me at Zenit. I played enough in the base, but two weeks before the start of the season I got injured. She prevented her from gaining a foothold in the cage, where there was already strong competition.
I confess: all that time I wanted to return to Rostov and even spoke about this to the management of Zenit. Mircea did not let go, and when I recovered from the injury, didn’t trust him.
– Is Lucescu the worst thing that could happen to Zenit?
– Mircea wanted to keep the old backbone, but Hulk, Witsel, Garay left (although Ezequiel said he would stay). It was hard without such players. Mircea asked for a replacement, and, apparently, not everyone he asked was brought to him. There was tension between him and the management, and there was no understanding within the team.
Mogilevets played for Zenit from 2014 to 2017. For the club from St. Petersburg, the footballer played 20 matches and gave one assist.
