Russian coach Valery Nepomniachtchi called a reasonable possible decision to move the Russian Football Union (RFU) to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
On December 23, the RFU Executive Committee postponed the decision to move to the AFC. The President of the RFU Alexander Dyukov said that the final decision will be made on December 27, and until December 31, the RFU has time to apply for entry so that the Russian team has time to take part in the 2026 World Cup qualification.
