Sports lawyer spoke about the details of the transition from UEFA to AFC
Sports lawyer Mikhail Prokopets told the “Championship” how the procedure for the transition from UEFA to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will be carried out.
– We apply on a special form – Appendix A for admission to the AFC (Asian Football Confederation). We send the documents that are listed in Appendix B – statements, reports, regulations and other documents. Plus, you must provide a letter from UEFA stating that there are no objections to the transfer of Russia. Then there is a vote at the AFC congress, where the granting of ordinary membership to Russia is discussed.
Is it clear when and how the congress can take place? There is no information on timing. The AFC has 47 members, and the quorum is more than 50%. Decisions are made by simple majority. That is, representatives of 24 countries can gather, and 13 votes will be enough. Although it is unlikely that only 24 participants of the congress will gather, rather, more.
Probably, there may be an unscheduled congress, but in general it is necessary to talk about something else. All this makes sense if agreements have been reached in advance. In my opinion, it would be reckless to do everything at once on the forehead. We need to discuss in advance with UEFA and with the AFC. Are you ready to let go of Russia? Do you want to receive us? Prokopets said.
RFU President Alexander Dyukov said last week that the final decision on a possible transfer to the AFC would be made on December 27. Until the 31st, the RFU has time to apply for entry so that the Russian team has time to take part in the 2026 World Cup qualification.
