Famous actor and fan of CSKA Mikhail Grushevsky admitted to Metaratings.ru that he is rather opposed to the transition of the Russian Football Union (RFU) to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
– I know about the Asian Confederation only at the level of national teams, so it’s hard for me to talk. Teams of Japan and Korea looked very decent at the World Cup. In 2006, the Australian team under the leadership of Guus Hiddink looked very decent. And Asian club football is a mystery to me.
The fact that the meeting was again postponed may indicate that there are serious disagreements. To put it mildly, I’m not sure that this is the case when you need to frantically vote until December 31 and make a fateful decision. This solution does not seem very smart and correct to me, I am rather opposed to this option. I understand that there is no clarity on the future fate of UEFA, but there is no understanding of FIFA as a whole.
Of course, I will accept any decision as a given, after all, no one has held a popular vote. But I will allow myself a pre-New Year’s forecast that this decision will be postponed to January 2 or will be shelved. It seems to me that this decision will hang for the next six months.
– If the transition does happen, will you watch the Asian Champions League?
– If Russian clubs participate there, then, of course, I will follow. If CSKA participates, I will consider this as an opportunity not only to go somewhere, but also to visit the stadium.
It would be interesting to hold competitions in the Maldives. To have a separate island for fans and a stadium. And an island where fans will gather and watch broadcasts. It will be educational football tourism.
RFU President Alexander Dyukov said last week that the final decision on a possible transfer to the AFC would be made on December 27. Until the 31st, the RFU has time to apply for entry so that the Russian team has time to take part in the 2026 World Cup qualification. Earlier it became known that the voting of the executive committee of the RFU on this issue was postponed again and should take place before the end of the year.
